We are fortunate to live and own a studio here on Amelia Island. We have such a great island, it is small but packs a punch...(just like me..LOL..I am 5 feet even, my flip flops may give me an extra 0.5 inch). There are gorgeous locations all over our island, some more obvious that others, but there are hidden gems even down our dirt roads.
So let's start with the obvious...our beaches! Well believe it or not we have several types of beaches and when my clients want beach portraits we 1st discuss the different types, locations, and style for their session to aid in picking the best location. Of course my favorites are the ones where they're are not tons of people. I want my clients to look like they are the only ones on the beach! So maybe you like a beach that has a more "white fluffy sand look". These are the most popular. I always try to choose a location that has great wide beaches as well as dunes high enough to capture without the hotels and housing in the background.
Maybe you are trying to showcase the place you grew up or the resort you are staying at...then we want to make sure we highlight that in your portrait.
Some of our beaches have great features that you want to include...like one of our two piers or the jetties, even a Fort.
Maybe your fancy is for calmer waters a smaller beach with algae covered rocks, and seagrasses that almost touch the waters edge.
Another hidden gem is the beach at the island just south of us where the island has eroded so much that the forested trees have fallen into the water making a gorgeous landscape like no other. This beach offers a smaller beach, with muddy sands, but plenty of climbing activity.
Maybe you are looking for something that is not a beach at all! We have forest here too! Beautiful mature trees often graced with spanish moss creating a canopy over the roads. We are fortunate to still have some great green spaces on our island and just of our island in both directions that allow us to to still capture the "middle of nowhere" feeling. We have a few state parks just miles from our studio that lend themselves to great backdrops.
I personally love marshes! In my original career and through my college days, I found myself working in these areas often. I know I am crazy, but I love the smell of the marsh mud and all the textures the landscape offers. So maybe you aren't as daring and want to get muddy, but even on the edge or when it is low tide you can't beat the view.
Our quaint downtown area also screams for my lens! There is so much history here on our island, I love the masonery and its colors! The older stores with the new provides a great contrast.
You can't go wrong here. Maybe I am bias, but I think our backdrops are perfect! Ohhh and we also have a full service studio too!
