So you planned hard for your family to be ready for the big portrait day. The kid's hair was cut, the outfits were sought after, purchased and pressed. The husband was notified what to wear, especially his smile! You prayed for great weather, no stains, the dog not to go to the bathroom during the session and the kids not to have a knock down drag out fight! And guess what......your planning paid off, you had a beautiful perfect portrait session and experience....NOW WHAT?????? Before you meet to see your beautiful portraits, it is always best to have a idea in mind of what types of products you want, where and how to display your portraits in your home and at your work, who do you need to buy gift portraits for, and be as prepared as you can for your Portrait Reveal Session.
Even in the day of everyone wanting things on the computer, you need to have Finished Products (aka...printed photographs, canvas portraits, metal prints, albums, coffee table book from your session). It is always best to order these finished products during your Reveal Session while you FRESH and in the moment and do not let everything on your to do list take over and you never order those beautiful portraits that you prepared so hard for!
So what is best for you.....I always tell my clients to think about their walls first! These portraits should be the absolute favorites, must haves, ones you want everyone to swoon over when they are at your house and of course the ones you want to look at daily. Think where you are going to hang these....over the mantle, in the hallway, over the bed, in the nursery, in the bathroom (metal prints are perfect for this space), guest room, living room, dining room, playroom, etc.... Now think what type of finished product best fits your style....maybe it is the traditional framed portrait, the contemporary canvas gallery wrap that is one-and-done...no framing necessary, maybe it is printed on wood to give homage to your rustic or vintage style, or maybe you love the intense color of a metal print! Once you figure that out....let's think size....are you ordering a few large images or are you ordering a gallery of images. Do you want them printed on the same media or do you like it mixed up? Measure your walls, do not just guess at what size you need. Trust the photographer because typically you will need something larger than you think. You do not want to proudly display a "postage stamp" on your wall! Don't forget about ordering something to take to work to show off your adorable family.
So let's say you ordered your absolute favorites for you walls, but you want more...you love so many!!! Coffee table books and albums are a great way to get either all or a bunch of portraits from your session in one great place that is easy for sharing, displaying or even tucking away when you do not want little hands on your portraits. Both options could be beautifully displayed on an entry table, coffee table or even in a library/study area of your home.
Lastly, portraits make great gifts! My parents always ask for portraits of the kiddos for every birthday and holiday...forget the "Christmas Mug" (unless it is made with portraits of my kids), who needs another lousy t-shirt, pair of socks, etc.... Portraits are great. We offer tons of great portrait gift items from mugs to Canvas Slims (on built in easel), portrait jewelry, etc....
Moral of the story.....get your portraits printed and displayed, you deserve to have these, especially with all of the energy you spent on preparing for your portrait session.
