Ask any parent what their most important moment in their life was....and I bet they will tell you it is the birth of their child or children. As a mother of two...there is nothing like it. Regardless on how your child was brought into this world: standard hospital birth, c-section, home birth, water birth they are all amazing! Why not capture it as a moment in time that you will remember forever. Again as a mother of two, I do not remember much of the birth of my children. Don't get me wrong, I remember who was there and some of the process, but not everything that I get to see and capture for my families. I remember laboring with my first and then having to be told I now required an emergency c-section. I remember my husband's face being super white, having the epidural shakes so bad I had to be strapped to the table and then waiting to hear my son's first cry. I remember my Mom being the 3rd to hold him...and that is about it. With my second, believe it or not, I remember less! I did what most Mom's do....sorry hubbie...but I left the camera in the hands of my husband! While he did get a picture of each child when the doctors held them up, the child with the doctor, and the nurse took a picture of all of us while I laid strapped to the table, I wanted more!!!! So just a few years ago I started offering our Boston Birthing Stories! These are stories capturing all of the portraits I wish I had had! I am on-call for my families and ready for whatever their birth plan or lack there of entails. I will capture all of the things Moms and Dads won't think about, or remember, or things they can't because they need to be focused on the miracle that is about to happen.
Typically I arrive at the hospital or home during labor, at the scheduled induction or c-section time and capture everything as it unfolds. I have captured births with many local doctors and am approved at all of the local hospitals so it makes everything flow easily! I typically stay an hour or two after the birth to capture portraits with those special people and those special moments: Siblings first glimpse, grandma holding, first bath, etc... Honestly these sessions are like no other and melt my heart every single time; yes I am often crying behind my lens right along with the family. These are so special to me! These sessions are "artistically raw". These are capturing the amount as is like a journalist. Not every shot is going to be perfect posted, babies hands placed in the beautiful position, Mom's hair perfect...but all of these things is what I LOVE about these sessions. These sessions are always done in classic black and white. We offer beautiful Newborn and Boston Baby Bundle Sessions (Milestone packages for the babies first year) in our studio, outdoors, and in your home to capture those perfect portraits.
We have decided to expand our Birthing Story offerings and begin offering First 48 sessions too. These sessions will be different than our Birthing Stories, in the sense that they are not capturing the actual birth, but still coming to the hospital/home/birthing center within the child's first 48 hours to capture the details associated with this time. These sessions will still be "artistically raw" journalistic style, all black and white and capture an hour in the glimpse of the new life! This will give parents a different experience than the Boston Birthing Stories (typically up to 6 hours and the actual labor, birth, delivery and after). These will be more "scheduled" so if parents want to be photographed out of those fashionable gowns, have their hair or makeup done, arrange for the siblings to be there or grandparents, etc.. this can be done. Like our Boston Birthing Stories, these sessions are not designed with elaborate props and sets. Once again, these do not take place of our Newborn and Baby Bundle Program sessions, but give an other option to our families to capture all of these special moments, because nothing compares to being a parent!
